What did you want to be when you grew up? Names of jobs and careers in English focus on what the person is actually doing. If you know many nouns and verbs in English, learning names of jobs will be super easy for you.
Let’s start with -er/-or jobs. When we use -er/-or it often means something or someone does something.
Here are some examples of jobs or careers ending with -er/-or:
Doctor
Tailor
Actor
Firefighter
Painter
Manager
Driver
Racer
Cleaner
Lawyer
Inventor
Engineer
Mentor
Teacher
Tutor
But, not all jobs and careers have -er/-or endings. Some end with -ist and others don’t seem to have any pattern. Here are some that end with -st and others that are helpful to memorize:
