Why Don’t I Remember More Words?! 😭

Don’t worry! Every language learner has felt this way. Learning a language can be stressful, challenging, and tiresome. But it doesn’t have to be. Let’s talk about why you may be forgetting a number of words.

1. You may not have the time to study enough to get them to stick.

This problem can be solved. Think about why you want to learn English. Make a list of all the ways it will benefit your life. Then make a lists of things you like about the culture surrounding the language. Then, make a list of all the things you do each day and ask yourself which thing on the list is worth removing so you can have the time to study. If you can’t remove anything from the list, it may be that learning English just isn’t something you need to accomplish quickly. Maybe it’s more of a hobby that will bear results over time.

2. You might be forgetting words because you haven’t formed an emotional attachment to them.

This might sound silly, but you’re more likely to remember something you love. 💕 Don’t give up! Think about whether a word sounds strong, soft, delicate, or rough. Think about how it feels to say it, and why and when it’s used. In your native language you’ve formed an emotional attachment to words and they make up your vocabulary. The same will happen with languages you learn.

3. Maybe it’s because you don’t need them.

How often is the word used in English? Maybe you don’t remember it because you rarely need to use it in a sentence. In this case, don’t feel bad because it could happen to anyone🙂

Whatever the reason is that you’re easily forgetting words, don’t give up! With time, energy, and passion for the language, the words will come to stick in your memory.
