Suffixes are found at the end of words, and can help us find the meaning of the word in full. Here are some examples of common suffixes:

-er

Meaning: We use this to mean “more” or “someone who”.

Meaning “more”:

Bigger, smaller, smarter, kinder, nicer

Meaning “someone who”:

worker, learner, thinker, officer, firefighter

-ly

Meaning: We use this to say “how” we do an action.

Quickly, slowly, perfectly, nicely, happily

-est

Meaning: We use this to say the “most”.

Biggest, smallest, tallest, smartest
